For Vydūnas. Seeing Differently
This issue of Sphairos, is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of philosopher and creator Viliaus Storosta-Vydūnas – an opportunity to meet one of the most enigmatic Lithuanian philosophers and creators. Without his spiritual contribution, it would be difficult to imagine the path of revival and consciousness not only of Lithuania Minor, but of Lithuania as a whole. However, in order for Vydūnas’ spiritual legacy to become truly relevant to the thinking person of today, it is necessary for each generation to question the value of this legacy.
We also invite you to journey with the authors of this publication in the present tense through a world of the power of ideas, images and transformations. The meditations on beauty by François Cheng, a member of the French Academy, which have incredible links with Vydun’s philosophy and have been translated into many languages around the world, are a unique testimony to the commonality and universality of Vydun’s ideas. The communion of exceptional and extraordinary personalities is also attested by Maria Janion, a professor of the University of Warsaw, whose years of study are closely linked to Vilnius. Continuing the theme of seeing things differently, the works of young academics are also published, both in relation to the current communication of the contemporary museum and to the creative manifestations of art as health promotion.
